Twelve young men took off on a trek in the mountains of northern Thailand fourteen days ago.  Now, back in Bangkok, Jackson finds himself on the hook for manslaughter.  Jackson is an engaging and insightful guy who’s shaken by the whole experience.  By day he writes at the hotel pool, dispatching an account of the trek to his pal in Maine.  By night he swims out into Bangkok’s night world.

Jane is an American in her twenties living in Asia without much of a plan and not feeling as though she needs one. For a while, she did petty smuggling, (fake Rolexes and designer dresses), out of Hong Kong when she lived there with her recent ex, Oliver. In Baikal, Jane takes on a simple smuggling run on the Trans-Siberian Express for fun, but the trip turns out to be more dangerous and less predictable than the trips she used to do.
